Creating a Local Cube with Microsoft ExcelMicrosoft Excel (2000, XP, and 2007) provides a wizard for creating a local cube. You can choose to include specific dimensions, levels, and measures with this tool. You cannot, however, choose to include any calculated members in the local cube that you are creating. |

To create a local cube with Excel you first have to connect to a cube. While you are viewing the cube in the PivotTable, follow these steps for Excel 2000: 1. Select Client-Server Settings
from the PivotTable palette's menu. |

3. The first page of the wizard provides information about local cubes. 4. The second page of the wizard gives you the opportunity to include or exclude specific dimensions and levels from the source cube. You cannot include lower levels in a dimension when you exclude a higher level. 5. The third page of the wizard allows you to include or exclude particular members from the highest non-All level of each of the dimensions you have included in your local cube. You cannot exclude members from any of the lower levels. 6.The wizard then presents you with a file location dialog, allowing you to save the local cube file to a specific file location. You can use Excel to browse the local cube you have just created (or any local cube) by creating a new OLAP data source and choosing the local cube file in the Multidimensional Connection wizard. |
