Designing Local Cubes for Off-Line Data Access

CubeSlice uses local cube files to provide access to cube data when a connection to the Analysis Server is not available. Local cube files provide most of the multidimensional browsing capabilities of server cubes.

CubeSlice gives you full control over which portions of the server cube you want to include in the local cube. You may want to include the entire server cube. But there are also times when you may choose to limit the data included in the local cube file for off-line browsing. Here are three reasons why you might want to do that:

1. The local cube file would be too large if all parts of it were included.

2. The users aren’t interested in some of the dimensions, levels, or measures.

3. The users aren’t allowed to see some portions of the cube.

The CubeSlice Creator gives you full control over what gets included in your cube. You can include or exclude specific measures, calculated members, dimensions, levels, members, or member properties.
